How To Promote A Space Tourism News Site PDF Print E-mail
Friday, 13 April 2007

I've been figuring out a strategy for promotion of BuyMeToTheStars for the last week.

Part of the strategy relies on Search Engine Optimisation. At this stage not many people are searching for the phrases "space tourism" or "space tourism news". I do get some traffic from Google however, and you'd be very surprised at the search terms! At the moment I am still toying around with Joomla and am attempting to get Permalinks working. This is proving to be troublesome! I never had this trouble with WordPress...

I've also been writing articles for the site that I will be sending to article distribution portals in the hope that it will bring in some good traffic. Some people can be quite unscrupulous and steal your articles for their own sites without giving credit. I have built up a list of articles from other people, in the hope of widening the space tourism community. Other people may not be so generous.

The final part to my strategy is posting on forums and having a high quality signature link. I've been toying with a good link bait idea that will be along the lines of "10 Ways To Save Up For That Space Tourism Ticket" or something similar. I would love to have this Digg'd and Stumbled Upon. Only time will tell!

Now it's back to sorting out these permalinks and adding a proper article section.

The Return Of The Space Cowboy PDF Print E-mail

"This is the return, of the Space Cowboy" - Jamiroquai.

That's right, I've made a comeback. After a long period of absence I have decided to return to what I love best, Space Tourism! So what have I been doing while I was away?

In short, learning how to make profitable websites! I've have studied hard, read more books than I can remember and scoured the internet hunting high and low for information on how to make a great portal. The previous incarnation of BuyMeToTheStars.com was a hapharzard affair, programmed by myself in my spare time. All the content was written without any thought to optimisation for search engines and I didn't really publicise the site as well as I could have. Things will be different from now on!

The first major change to occur was in the "style" of the website. Before, there was little content to attract repeat visits except my weblog, which to be honest, wasn't updated as much as it could have been. In my desperate rush for media attention I forgot about the actual visitors who would be venturing here. I had some vague notion that "web traffic = sales" and held that as my mantra for a while. My current axiom is "good content = repeat traffic = new traffic = sales" (or something like that!). Thus the site has now become a portal for all things space tourism related. I am currently updating the news on a daily basis and I plan to have around 20 articles initially on space tourism organisations, vehicles and space ports!

The most important thing is that the content provided is of a high quality. This I'm sure I can achieve, as I have a deep passion for space exploration and can't wait to get up there myself! Please look around the site and let me know what you think by contacting me.

Thanks for reading, I'll see you later!
